The true beauty of recycling
Joel Healy is a master when it comes to the restoration of old timber furniture. Joel has not only skill and flair, but also passion, genuinely caring about each piece to create a truly unique finish.
It may sound a bit corny, but I really do let every piece speak to me.

Joel respects the furniture. A piece will sit in his workshop for a while before he starts on it, so he can get the feel of it. And the finish will change along the way, as the restoration process reveals the beauty of the natural timber.
I love the colour French Linen, because it complements the natural beauty of the timber.
The furniture may have had a hard time in its previous life, but Joel will show it some love. Bumps, scars, holes, layers of paint; Joel will bring it back to life and let its natural beauty shine through, using stains polishes and paint to give it a new feel.

How do we recycle?

Recycled furniture
Joel sources and restores old timber furniture, and after many painstaking hours, offers the pieces for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Rimu and oak are favourite timbers, but you’ll also find mahogany, totara and macrocarpa. Joel’s prices are deliberately affordable – Lofty Giraffe is a labour of love rather than a get-rich scheme!

Custom restoration
Do you have a piece stuck away in your garage or attic that needs some TLC? Joel will work his magic on not just the finish but the functionality as well, restoring it with the attention it deserves, and custom-finishing it to suit your décor. Let Lofty Giraffe give your beautiful old furniture a second life.

New pieces from recycled timber
Joel creates stunning chopping boards, vanity tops, benchtops, and desks from recycled timber. Using recycled slabs from macrocarpa, rimu, and totara, untold patience and a craftsman’s hands, Joel turns castoffs into beautiful new designs, with gorgeous timbers so deserving of a new life.
